Located on the banks of the Vaal River on the outskirts of Parys, Freestate, House Damoi was conceived as a space from which to experience the transient nature of the indigenous surrounding landscape.

The proposed update includes a new residential unit connected to the main building by means of a stepped landscaping intervention. The residential units exist as a repurposed shipping container typology coupled to each other to form a labyrinth of communal and private rooms for guests. The units boast modern finishes, structural interventions and glazed volumes to compliment the contemporary modern style of the existing main building.

The landscaping intervention joins the two structures by means of stepping the natural contours to create a multifunctional entertainment terrace overlooking the Vaal River.
